Travel time: 1 month
Number of countries visited: One (technically 2 - we spent an hour in Burma)
Distance travelled: Across Thailand
Mode of transport: Planes, buses, minivans, tuk tuks and Elephants
Favourits word: ขอขอบคุณคุณ ( it sounds like 'Korb koon kah!' and means thank you)
Favourite bits: Street food, amazing beaches, catching the travel bug
Least favourite bits: Our first experience of poverty, those stupid jeweller shops... how annoying!
Our first trip abroad! Little were we to know how much this month would impact the direction of the rest of our lives.
It started innocently. A friend told us about a trip she had just done to Thailand with a company called 'Intrepied'. It sounded like fun, and we had some money in the bank (it was once destined to be a house deposit) so we thought 'why not?'. We went to the same travel agent and booked the same trip, with a few days in Phuket added to the end.
It was epic. From Bangkok we headed north to the border with Burma, went trekking, rode elephants and explored temples and monastries. I spent my 21st birthday sailing down a river on a ricebarge whilst drinking tequila with some of the most amazing people we have ever met. We were blessed by monks and by the sun. It was unforgettable.
